This book covers recipes across different Spark Libraries namely Spark Core, Spark Streaming, Spark SQL, MLlib, GraphX etc.

I can't believe this book is being sold in the Cookbook family that I have come to associate with quality (ref: Scala Cookbook etc). The english is terrible (and its not just aesthetics - some sentences just don't make sense (e.g "Spark RDDs are a great way to store datasets in memory while ending up with multiple copies of the same data in different applications"). Then sometime soon after:
"Please SSH to master node and start slaves: hduser@ s1. zettabytes.com ~] spark-class org.apache.spark.deploy.worker.Worker spark:// m1. zettabytes.com: 7077") You ssh to master node, and what is shown is a slave node (...Slaves s1. zettabytes.com...)
I kept going thinking that maybe I was not following and it was my fault, but the subsequent examples were all half-baked. The tachyon sample doesn't clarify anything about the words folder or file. In the next chapter ("Hadoop MapReduce's word count becomes very simple with the Spark shell. In this recipe, we are going to create a simple 1-line text file, upload it to the Hadoop distributed file system (HDFS) "). If this is going to be a cookbook, it needs to be complete. There is an earlier chapter on installing Spark with Hadoop YARN, but this chapter doesn't mention anything about HDFS installation (I kept getting a port error on 9000).

Fast food of the books

The book is written not too thoroughly. Simple stuff is clear, but it also can be found in online spec. The more complicated topics, like Kafka, are written hastily, figures don't explain the concepts, notations in the figures are not explained, etc. In other words, everything that is easy is presented okay. Everything that is not clear from other sources, is messy and not explained well. No deep knowledge or extensive experience or thorough work on the book.

About the Author

Christopher J. Plack was educated at Christ’s College, University of Cambridge, where he obtained a BA in Natural Sciences in 1987 and a PhD in 1990. He worked as a postdoctoral research fellow for two years at the University of Minnesota and for two years at the University of Sussex before being awarded a Royal Society University Research Fellowship in 1994. He moved to the University of Essex in 1998 and was promoted to chair in 2001. He moved again to Lancaster University in 2005 before obtaining his present position of Ellis Llwyd Jones Professor of Audiology at the University of Manchester in 2008. Chris Plack has published over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, 12 book chapters, and two edited volumes. In 2003, he was elected a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America.

This book is unnecessarily confusing. The author is not clear when explaining important concepts. If you have to use this book for class, good luck because you're gonna need a lot of it when it comes to reading this horrible overly complicated book. Deeper. Stronger. Needier.

It's too late to turn back now, I'm In Deep... Yup, those Lockhart brothers are addictive. And if that isn't enough, the residents of the town of Lovely will capture your heart. Whether it's at Miss Dee Dee's Dance Depot or the Diner across the street, you'll find amazing colorful characters that provide family support. Especially for those that don't have a supportive family of their own. I have to tell you, this book is my fave, it's so full of all the things I love in a good book. Strong friendships, family support, witty banter, horizontal and vertical dance moves, Ed Sheeran, stress-baking, secrets and suspense. All of the Lockhart brothers are sexy and talented, but this story is about Mason. Only time will tell, but I think he might be my favorite of the brothers. He shares my love for dirty-dancing, dirty-fighting, dirty-texting, dirty-talkin', dirty-sex, and of course, technology. It's really funny when the brothers get together, they tend to 'over-share' and in my opinion there's no such thing as TMI in one of their conversations. I can't wait for Kyle to finally get what he's been missing out on. I'm looking forward to his story and for more time with all the characters I've already been introduced to. Oh my...Erica...sniffle...heart-shaped lump in my throat. ❤️

Love Mason!

Oh gosh, what to say about In Deep? Fantastic, amazing, heartfelt, hot, the list could go on and on. Mason is a super hot alpha male with a temper and a penchant for dirty talk. April is a nurturing young woman who has put everyone else before her self her entire life, and doesn't quite know how to handle the advances of the ultimate bad boy. I loved everything about this book. I loved Mason's alpha hotness, but even more I loved that April made him work for her and didn't simply fall at his feet. All in all another amazing book from Brenda Rothert.

This is another 5 star read for me from Brenda. I loved the main characters, Mason and April. This story was not as emotional as the first book in this series (Deep Down), but still just as good. There were many moments that had me laughing out loud at something the characters had said or did. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
