Had Potential

"The Bible's Answers to 100 of Life's Biggest Questions" by Norman L. Geisler & Jason Jimenez is book about common questions people ask about life such as Why are we born into sin and many other questions. I liked how the authors answered the questions, then gave application, then Bible references and recommend books on the subject. What I did not really enjoy was that the answers at times seemed very short and could have been longer. I would have rather had this book in a multiple of series of books with longer answers than short answers in one book. This book to me was not geared towards unbelievers but to believers that have questions. So if you were thinking these would be great for your unbelieving friend or family member stay clear its more to answer a believers questions. So I recommend it but be warned the answers were on the short side.

Great Resource to Answer Big Questions

This book is unique in that it serves multiple purposes. While the title is certainly an accurate description of the book, this book so much more than a book of answers to tough bible trivia questions. Rather, this book serves as both a guide to apologetics and a beginner-level systematic theology. Generally, the questions that I get from middle school and high school students that walk into my office fall into one of those two categories - apologetics or systematic theology.
The conversation usually begins with, "What does the Bible say about....." and ends with one of many options - abortion, creation, homosexuality, the Trinity, miracles, Jesus' divinity, Bible translations, the reliability of the Bible, politics, heaven and hell, demons and angels, parenting, dating, sex, and many more. This book covers them all in bite sized fashion.
I have already recommended this text to the students in my youth group and will continue to point students, new believers, and others to this resource as an excellent way to get answers to tough questions and recommendations on how to explore tough topics further.
Norman Geisler is one of the most famous apologists still alive today. He is filled with knowledge, yet has taken some extremely difficult topics and made them understandable. While this is my first experience with the writing of Jason Jimenez, I was impressed with his writing and clarity.
One of the things that I really loved as a pastor is the fact that the authors point the reader to multiple resources at the end of each chapter. This book is not exhaustive on any one topic - it is not meant to be so. But the authors do give some great suggestions at the end of each chapter as to how the reader might explore the topic further. As a youth pastor, I especially appreciate the fact that all of the recommended resources are not books. While there are some good books that are mentioned, this text also points to DVD's, online videos, and helpful websites. I was pleasantly surprised to see resources from a range of different authors and organizations. There are several texts by Geisler and Jimenez respectively, bu there are also recommendations from John Stott, Ravi Zacharias, Ron Rhodes, the North American Missions Board, Andy Stanley, John Maxwell, Gary Habermas, David Jeremiah, Henry Blackaby, Chap Clark, and Kyle Idleman, and many more - no slouches here!! Honestly, the price of the book is worth the bibliography at the end of each chapter!
This is an excellent resource to put on your shelf. My guess is that it will not last long as many people will probably be borrowing it, so grab two copies!

Clear and Simple Answers to Questions that Matter

Good questions deserve good answers—especially when the questions are honest.
Too often questions about the Bible intend only to put up a smokescreen in which the critic uses as an excuse to hide from his or her accountability to God.
Christians need to know the Bible’s answers to the skeptic’s questions. In fact, a good answer can blow away the smoke and leave the critic exposed to the reality that his or her sin leaves them accountable to God. But thankfully, the Bible also it shows how God’s love has made provision for that sin through Jesus Christ.
Norm Geisler and Jason Jimenez have written an excellent reference book that answers questions that would leave most of us standing with our mouths in the shape of a question mark. We would expect an apologetics book to offer good answers to the typical questions, like: How can a good God allow evil? And what about the person who’s never heard of Jesus? And it does well at these.
But this new volume answers question that seem slipperier. For example:
• What is wrong with same-sex marriage?
• What happened to the dinosaurs?
• What do Muslims believe?
• How can Jesus be both God and man?
• Can a Christian be demon possessed?
• How can I know God’s will for my life?
• What is the role of government?
As you can see, these questions deal with more than what seems like abstract theology. They show how the Bible has answers to the questions of today. Knowing these answers gives us confidence in our own faith as well as confidence to share the truth in love with others.
For each of the 100 questions asked, this book offers an answer, an application, Bible references, recommended books, Web sites, and videos.
